Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is a comprehensive treatment that uses various techniques to manipulate the soft tissues and joints of the body. At Millrise Physiotherapy and Massage, we specialize in using massage therapy to prevent, develop, maintain, and rehabilitate physical function and relieve pain. Our clinically-oriented approach delivers exceptional results, effectively alleviating discomfort from stress, muscle overuse, and chronic pain. We also offer specialized services, including pregnancy massage and active release therapy, to meet the unique needs of our clients.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never had a massage before. Does it hurt?

Massage therapy is commonly used to release muscle tension and promote relaxation. Most patients find it a soothing and therapeutic experience. We work within your comfort level to ensure a relaxing session.

Do I need to fully undress?

You should undress to your comfort level for the areas you wish to have massaged. Many patients choose to remain in their underwear. During the session, you’ll be fully covered with a sheet or blanket, with only the area being treated uncovered. We ensure complete privacy for you to undress and dress before and after the session.

How is your massage different from a spa massage?

Our massage therapists are highly trained and clinically focused, aiming to relieve muscle tension and improve mobility. Our therapists also educate clients on how to manage and improve problem areas, making it a therapeutic experience tailored to your needs.

What are the benefits of massage therapy?

Professional massage therapy can relieve muscle tension, alleviate pain, enhance your range of motion, and reduce mental stress. Our approach offers both physical and emotional benefits, supporting your body’s natural healing processes.

Do your massage therapists work with physiotherapists?

Yes, we coordinate closely with our physiotherapy team. All appointments are thoroughly charted, and it’s common for our massage and physiotherapy teams to collaborate to address specific problem areas and injuries, optimizing your recovery.

Will I experience muscle soreness after a massage?

Many clients feel relaxed and experience relief from aches and pains after a session. Some clients, especially those requiring deep-tissue massage, may experience mild muscle soreness that lasts a day or two. Once the soreness subsides, many report increased energy and range of motion.

Do you offer massage gift certificates?

Absolutely! A therapeutic massage is a thoughtful gift for someone in need of relaxation and relief. Please call or visit us to purchase a gift certificate.

Are your massage therapists 2200-hour certified and covered by extended benefits?

Yes, all of our massage therapists have completed the 2200-hour certification program. Most extended healthcare plans cover therapeutic massage provided by certified practitioners. In Alberta, many insurance companies require a minimum of 2200 hours for extended benefits coverage.

Can I get a massage if I’m pregnant?

Yes, our massage therapists are trained in prenatal massage. Please inform us when booking if you’re pregnant, as we offer specialized positioning and massage techniques for your comfort. For safety, we do not provide massages during the first trimester. Please let us know if you require a massage chair or have any specific needs.
